A Different World
Das NGL in Aylesbury

After our English exchange partners had visited us in March, it was now our turn to travel to England.
We were all very excited when we finally arrived in Aylesbury at our host schools Aylesbury Grammar School and Aylesbury High School.

We each headed off to our respective host families. The host families were incredibly open-minded, kind, helpful, and hospitable—always there whenever we needed them.

On the first day, the German exchange students visited the magical Harry Potter Studios. We were allowed to explore this magical world independently in groups of three. In the afternoon, we returned to our host families for dinner. Later, we formed groups to create wonderful memories on our own, such as going to the movies.
The very next day, we made our first trip to London.
We explored Greenwich in groups of three and then regrouped for a boat ride to the Elizabeth Tower. After the boat trip, we were free to explore London on our own and make more great memories. The third day marked our first joint excursion with the English students—a trip to Oxford. In larger groups, we took part in a highly informative tour of Oxford’s impressive colleges. On Friday, we headed straight back to London for a second visit.
This time, however, there was a challenge: each group of three had to take selfies with London’s most famous landmarks. In the afternoon, we met at the London Eye, which offered us a stunning view of the city. We had the weekend to ourselves and could do whatever we liked; I think this turned out to be one of the week’s highlights.
Then, on Monday morning, the final day began. We spent a full school day with our exchange partners and played a quiz together as a large group; finally, in the afternoon, we had to say goodbye to our new friends.

All in all, it was a great experience for everyone involved, and we learned a lot. We all grew in some way—whether by improving our English skills or overcoming social anxiety. And I am certain that many lifelong friendships have been formed. Many have already planned a reunion.

We would also like to thank all the teachers and the English schools for the warm welcome and for giving us this wonderful opportunity in the first place.
